Getting There

From NYC, you’d be surprised how easy it is to get to the Lower Hudson Valley (#LoHud) and beyond. You can take Metro North from Grand Central or 125th Street and within about 1 hour you will be in suburban fall heaven! Or if you prefer to drive, it can take as little as 45minutes to an hour to hit the lower hudson region. Lower Hudson consists of the counties closest to NYC including Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester. Growing up in Westchester, it feels like more of a get-a-way for me, when I explore the towns on the east side of the state that line the Hudson River.

Favorite Towns in #LoHud

My favorite places to explore along the Hudson Valley from South to North are Hastings-on-Hudson, Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, Croton-on-Hudson, and Peekskill. Across the Hudson, Nyack is also an adorable area to explore.

If you’re planning a longer get-a-way then farther north in Mid-Huson and Hudson Valley area along the river you have even more amazing options. I spent the last couple years exploring the area visiting the towns of Garrison, Cold Spring, and Beacon. The Metro North will go as far as Poughkeepsie, otherwise you will need to take Amtrak to explore the towns of Rhinebeck, Kingston, Tivoli, Saugerties, Woodstock, Germantown, Catskill, and Hudson.

There is so much to do in the area and the scenery is beautiful almost all year round, but I’m partial to Fall!

Activities, Where to Stay, and Where to Eat

Some of my favorite things to do in Lower Hudson Valley include apple picking, visiting orchards, wineries, breweries, exploring the towns and shopping, finding farmer’s markets and eating of course, antique hunting, and hiking! Here is a map with a bunch of my favorite spots marked on it, so you can plan to do something fun wherever you end up!
